About Us Page

This is our about us page. Some amendments and changes have been done to this page since it was last uploaded. This page is quite simple.

About Hair Page

This is the About Hair/Hair History page. This page links to the other pages that i have talked about and uploaded below. Clicking any of the animated design/button on the page will take the user/audience to that particular linked page.

Link to About Hair Page

This page also links to the about hair/hair history page. From looking at all the images of the different racial hair types, one could evidently see the difference that each of them have. Each page of the links contains a few information on why the particular is different, the charactersitics of such hair and the measures that can be taken to keep the hair from damage while keeping it healthly.

Link page to Hair history

This is another link to the hair history/about hair page. This page demonstrate also the different types of hair that exist in the Asian race and how they look different in styles, texture and length to that of the African hair and the Caucasian hair.

Continuous work on our first page

This is our first page that we created for our site. However, changes have been made to the page since we first created it. We thought more designs and editing needed to be done to the page to make it more interactive. So we implemented an animated talkie person and some other things. Below is the changes made to this page:

Not much changes seems to have been done on this page but this is not our final first page as more work has been carried out on the final page. This page will be revealed when we present it to the class. So look out for it.

African Hair-Hair history link page

This is one of the pages linked to hair history page and it gives the audience an idea of the different kinds of texture and length of hair styles that can be generated from the African hair. The images on the pages helps to make the distinction between the different racial hair types more clearer.

videos

I created a video where i was treating my own hair. I did come up with a problem with my camera half way through but i decided to continue on my phone camera. If you would like to see video's with people washing their hair on their own, like what i did, go to you tube. There are some very interesting ways to wash your own hair.

Project

You guys were doing very well at the moment with our project. Justo to let you know i changed all the fonts on all pages as well as the typo's that were in the project. Additionally as i am the only one with flash 8 i don't mind being the one to look at every seen and clear it up a little. All the buttons are created along with the audio. I just need to find a way to play the audio properly with an action attached to it. When i have figured this out i will get back to you.

By Petra

Just to let u know, none on the washing and treating hair posts that i published are copyright. I actually devised all the tips on hair myself as i am a hair care care consultant.

The project

Hi Dorcas, thanks for putting up the idea about the forum i told you about two weeks ago, the only problem is that realistically i don't think we can accomplish this. What we could do, however, is create a page where members of the public could post about their hair care as well as the state of their hair at the moment. This would allow different viewers to have a better idea of how to look after their hair. longhaircareforums.com is a website i have been very inspired by. The things different members of the public post about their hair care are insparational but the only problem is the time, if we wanted to do something similar. However, if we all come together and sought out how and where the forum will be published on the page, will be a bit better. Have a look at fotki.com and search natural hair or hair care. I was so inspired that i had to create my own blogspot.

Additional Designs

In addition to what the teacher was teling us in the lesson, i think it will also be very useful for us to implement little things like links, contact us and so. We might think those things are not important, but adding them to our website will enhance its interactivity.

The audience or user will also be able to find links if they become more interested in the information on the site and therefore want to research into depth on the topic-as the teacher said, we will be linked to the wider world of information.

We should also find time to meet to discuss what we have done so far, what can be done to improve it and if anyone is stuck or having difficulties in carrying out a particular design or page, we can be able to offer ideas and support. Doing these things will help us to achieve what we are doing more effectively and also be able to finish on time before the presentation and submission deadline.

WHY DO PEOPLE FROM DIFFERENT RACE HAVE DIFFERENT HAIR TYPES? FIND OUT!!!!!!

As people from different decent and origins, we have different hair as a result of our race. While researching on the topic on why we have racially different hair types, i came across a number of information and resources that explained why we have these different hair types. It also explained the characteristics of these hairs and the steps and measures that can be taken to care for the hair.

Project-Forum

I think that creating a forum where people can post their ideas and views will be really good. We could as the lecturer how to implement a forum and if it is possible when we return to uni.

Also i think we missed something really important when we were deciding what to put on our site. I tried to create it on the pages that i was working on but i didn't have enough space, therefore i will discuss it with you guys and see if we can create some space and put them on the site.

With the pages that we are creating individually, i don't think it should be final because we have created them by ourselves. We should be able to come together as a group after we have finished the pages so that everyone give their on what they think each person has created, and if we have to make changes to them, we can do just that. This is because we are working as group and the tutor will mark us as a group in respect to the site. The mark will affect all of us if things were not right on others page and left it as it was because they created it, we should be able to input into each other's page in order to get a good grade as a group. That is teamwork.

washing hair

I did a video the other day washing my hair extensions. It don't look too proffessional as i did it myself, however, the whole purpose of our how to video's is to let people know how to care for their hair at home. Therefore, Dorcas if you need an idea for the how to video's, maybe you should make your own video of washing your hair? Just a suggestion, bring it in and we can see it. Thanks

project

I have been looking at some of these forums and find that this is very useful for helping us with the different types of hair care routines and regimes people do. Maybe, if we have time we should create a forum page where anyone could post on? I dunno, if it's possible that will be cool. Take a look:http://www.longhaircareforum.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=6

Hi Dorcas and Castell

I have changed the front page slightly and made the morphing images morph abit more smoothly, i also changed a few words in the text because some parts didn't make sense when read aloud. Anyway i'm just working on the Hair care tips button. Just to let you know, because we are not there to see each others pages that we are working on, it may all be a bit different. Not to worry, as long as we let the teacher know what pages we did and how we did it, i'm sure that should be okay.

CONDITIONERS

For some reason i couldn't publish the post when i added the conditioners with the shampoos.

Here are therefore the Conditioners:

Leave In (thermal) conditioners help to coat the hair before direct heat is applied to the hair shaft. It serves as a buffer between the hair and the heat.

Protein conditioners provide strength, and help to reconstruct damaged hair.

Stimulating conditioners help moisturize hair and help revise the scalp, a must for those with dry scalp problems.

EDUCATION ON SHAMPOOS AND CONDITIONERS

Using the Right Hair Shampoo and Conditioner

When it comes to shampooing and conditioning the hair, the right shampoo and conditioner must be used because getting these two products wrong will affect the healthy growth of the hair. This is because different types of shampoos and conditioners have been made for certain conditions of the hair. By this I mean different shampoos and conditioners are needed when the hair is in a certain condition such as washing after relaxing the hair, washing though the hair has not been relaxed and also washing re-growth hair without relaxing.

All these different hair conditions requires different shampoos and conditioners because though a particular one may be useful for a hair condition, the same one may not be good for another. All the different shampoos and conditioners have different purposes and usage.

For example if your hair is dry and want to prevent dryness, breakages and frizz, you will be looking for moisturising shampoo which provides moisture to hair and not quick drying shampoo that help speed drying effect. Therefore choosing right shampoo and conditioner is very vital in ensuring healthy growth of the hair. Choose the wrong ones and you are doomed. Below are the different ranges of shampoos and conditioners and what they to the hair, to help the user choose the right one when deciding to wash the hair.

SHAMPOOS

Medicated shampoos
are used to rid the hair of dandruff. These shampoos usually have ingredients that help clean the hair and rid the scalp of dandruff.

Thickening shampoos

swell the hair shaft and makes it appear thicker, and fuller. At the same time, these shampoos help provide strength to the hair.

Moisturizing shampoos

provide moisture to the hair, helping to prevent dryness, breakage, and frizz.

Quick drying shampoos

are mainly used to help speed up the drying effect. This shampoo is mainly used on clients that air dry their hair, and are always in a rush.

Clarifying shampoos

rid the hair of impurities. Any medication, drugs, ect in your hair will vanish with clarifying shampoos.

Color Enhancing shampoos

keep your color (or highlights ) looking great between appointments. They also provide moisture for the hair, to prevent dryness, and breakage, and at the same time they help to keep your haircolor from fading as fast.

PROJECT IDEAS

Since we forgot to post the main ideas behind our project, decided to write something small on it so that people will know where our ideas came from.

PROJECT: Designing an interactive website on the subject e-learning. On the subject of e-learning, we decided to create a Hair website that we have given the 'Fair Hair Care'

IDEAS

Why a hair website?

As all the members of our group are from an Afro-Carribbean or African decent, we had one thing in common and that was our hair. Our hair differentiate us from Western people as the nature and texture of our hair is different. The hair is the pride and glory of people from this these race which therefore means that their hair is very important to them, and with that in mind, significant care maximum attention must be given to it.

People Afro-Carribbean and African decent has also experienced all sorts of hair disasters and catastrophe due to lack of information that will educate and teach them about the different kinds of products that are out there with details of the ones that are suitable for their hair. Also there is lack of educative information on how to grow healthy black hair while maintaining a healthy lifestyle

Our aim therefore was to design an interactive website with information, teachable videos and tips that will educate our audience on how to grow healthy black hair and thereby reduce hair disasters.

you tube--healthy hair

Shampooing hair

The biggest problem with afro/carribbean textured hair is the lack of washing the hair and keeping the scalp clean. Hair is prone to damage down to excessive treatment, even down to the way we dry our hair, this has an effect on the strands. What people don't know is that hair needs to be washed at least once a week to allow the scalp to be free from oil build up and free for healthy new growth to push through.

Treating the hair with care while washing and drying is essential and here are some tips:

If you have hair 1-5 inches long make sure to shampoo and condition the hair without manipulating the scalp too much (this can cause breakage). Make sure to towel blot the hair making sure not to harshly rub the hair as this also ruins the hair strands. To take out any knots use fingers and then along with a hair strengthener and your favourite oil product, comb the hair with a wide tooth comb. Air drying the hair is the best way to seal in moisture and is also the natural way decreasing the damaging effect from un-natural heat drying.

With hair longer than 5 inches the best way to tackle the hair without the hair shedding is to do chunky plaits in the hair prior to washing it. Mix about 2 cap-fulls of shampoo to a bowl of warm water and stir. In the shower or bath, pour the diluted shampoo on the plaits, shampoo the hair by squeezing the plaits and rinse the hair by pouring clean water and squeezing the plaits (make sure not to manipulate the scalp while washing as this leads to breakage). While the plaits are still in, apply a conditioner to the hair, this will untangle the hair leaving it easier to comb through. Take each plait out at a time and comb the hair through, rinse the hair making sure to re-do the hair after each individual plait. When all plaits have been taken out, combed, rinsed and re-plaited, take out all the plaits. Apply a hair strengthener along with your favourite oil product and then comb the hair with a wide tooth comb, Air drying the hair is the best way to seal in moisture and is also the natural way decreasing the damaging effect from un-natural heat drying.

PROPOSAL AND INTERACTIVE SITE CONCERN

Hi Castal,

Sorry if i spelt your name wrong. I don't hear from you guys. You said that you will write the proposal and then send it to us to make corrections and add to it but i haven't received anything or heard from you. Therefore i am not sure whether you have written it or not. Anyway, i am going to write it and i will like for us to meet 2morrow so that i can show it to you and if there is anything you want to add you can add to it. Please let me know if you can make it or not.

I also posted some information that we could use for our interactive website and wanted you guys to have a look and tell me what you thought of it and whether they were useful for our site. In addition i found some sites which i posted because they had some useful information which i thought could be of benefit to us and also implement it on the site.

However, i haven't heard anything from you guys and you have not replied to anything that i have posted on the blogg. Also we have not sat down and really discuss anything concerning our website and how we are going to go about things. Time is running really fast and we need to start gathering materials and putting stuff together if we want to finish on time and have a brilliant site.

Can you please get back to me please? Hope to hear from you soon if not then i will see you all on Monday or Tuesday.

Thank you.

a fascinating website

Hi guys,

While researching for more information on hair, i came across one website which i found very interesting and it gives quite an unusual and contrasting information on how to grow healthy hair which most of the hair websites haven't higlighted. It emphasise on the fact that growing a healthy hair does not necessarily mean spending all of one's money on hair products.

However eating the right balance diet with the right nutrients and minerals which are needed for healthy hair growth will allow the hair to grow beautifully. The eating of the right balance diet has to be done in conjunction with exercising as they all enhance the growth of a healthy hair.

This site is very interesting and i was blown by all the details they gave in specifying the minerals and nutirents needed for healthy hair while also explaining their effect and signifance in growing healthy hair. I don't want to go on and on about it, you should take a look and and tell me what you think about.

I was thinking that we could take some of their information as it is different and add it to our interactive website as it will make it interesting. Anyway just let me know what you think about it.

washing and treating the hair

Their are different ways of washing and treating the hair. To find out what is best for you, i will add a few different approaches to the process of washing and treating. I have tried almost everything and am now trying out a new approach.

Firstly my approach:

1. Currently i'm washing the hair with organic route stimulator shampoo (aloe creme). Making sure to massage the product in the hair once then rinse, then a second time then rinse thourougly.

2. I towel dry the hair then massage a small amount of product in the hair (I'm currently using a leave in treatment by RedKen called all soft and comes in a gold bottle)

3. I then apply leave in conditioner by Kera care all over the hair, comb it back and tie a scarf (with airholes) around the head. I sit under the dryer for 20 minutes (Time varies according to the length and thickness of the hair)

4. When the hair is dry i use a bristle brush and a hand held blow dryer to straghten out the hair (As my hair is now natural, it does not stay straight after coming out of the hair dryer).

5. My hair is now straight, but does not appear too silky. I then use Kera care -silken seal serum and apply to the hair (making sure to apply an even coverage)

6. I part the hair into sections and straigten the hair (going over the sections once or twice is enough, also making sure not to leave the hot straighteners on one part of the hair for more than two seconds)

7. The hair is now soft and silky, i may finally apply a light grease (Currently i'm using Kera care-dry and itchy scalp oil) to the scalp making sure to part the hair in big partens so the hair does not feel or appear too greasy.

This is the procedure of washing and condtioning the hair, however i do this for one week, the next week i only apply a deep condtioner to the hair (NOTHING ELSE!)

Procedure:

1. I am currently using LeKare cholesterol. I spread the conditioner evenly over the hair, i then put a shower cap over the hair for 20-30 minutes

2. I rinse the conditioner out thourougly, hair now feels softer.

3. I towel dry the hair and then repeat the steps from 3-7 (above).

I alternate the process of washing and using a leave in conditioner, and deep conditioning the hair on a weekly basis. At the end it turns out that i shampoo the hair once every two week and deep condition the hair once every two weeks.

Other approaches may include washing and deep conditioning the hair at the same time.

The approach:

1. Wash the hair with a product that suits you or a product that may be recommended to you from a proffessional stylist

2. Towel dry the hair and then add a reasonable amount of deep conditioner in the hair.

3. Cover hair with a plastic cap (shower cap) and go under the steamer, wrap a hot wet towel around the head or leave to settle on the head for 20-30 minutes.

4. Rinse out the product then proceed with styling (Look at steps 3-7 above)

Another approach:

1. Apply a deep conditioner to dry unwashed hair, cover hair with plastic cap and leave to sit for 20-30 minutes under steamer, with a hot wet towel around the head or just like that.

2. Rinse out the conditioner then apply shampoo at least twice and rinse thoroughly.

3. Apply a leave-in conditioner to the hair.

4. Proceed with styling (Look at steps 3-7 above)

If you do not wish to straighten the hair or apply heat, skip the steps 3-6 and after washing use a light moisturiser, this enables the hair to dry feeling soft.

healthy hair care tips

1. Wash hair every 7-10 days (This allows time for hair to develop it's natural oils so the hair would not become too dry. Also, frequent washes allows the scalp to remain clean without oil build up, this allows hair to push through effectively).

2. Choose the right products for your hair making sure not to use too many at a time. eg. try out a product for at least 4-6 weeks to notice the effects on the hair.

3. For afro/carribean hair, deep condition the hair at least every 2 weeks. This allows the hair to remain healthy and strong, decreasing the chances of breakage.

4. Drink plenty of water to promote shine in the hair. Eat healthy foods containing protein and iron, this also creates shine and promotes healthy new growth.

5. Decrease the amount of heat to the hair. If heat is applied, make sure to use an effective serum or heat spray to protect the hair strands from becoming weak or split.

6. Ensure to air-dry the hair after washing, at least 50% of drying time before using direct heat. Or alternatively use a hooded dryer. (As the hair is at it's weakest when wet, direct heat may stretch the hair making it become weaker).

7. Try not to use too many heavy oils on the scalp, as this clogs up the scalp making it hard for hair under to push out effectively.

8. In the winter, be sure to mask the hair with a light oil (this could be hair spray or a light moisturiser) as the hair becomes dry, enabeling it to become more prone to breakage and damage.

9. Ensure to wash the hair thouroughly after swimming. As chlorine is dangerous for the hair, being mixed with certain chemicals could damage hair severely.

10. Make sure to trim the ends of the hair every 6-8 weeks for relax treated hair, or every 8-12 weeks for natural hair (This allows the hair to appear even and grow healthy).
